awhile back one of my contacts on flickr invited me to participate in a collaboration. he made a mask covering half of a frame. he then shot the roll, sent the camera to me and i shot the roll again adjusting the film to expose the other half of the frame. i then developed the film. above is one of the shots. below is a shot where the images didn’t quite overlap. also you can see where the mask started to come undone(the mask is made out of tape):

i kind of like the jaggedness caused by the mask. i’ll have to explore masks more in the future.
and finally a shot of the camera we used:

i’ve reloaded the camera and shot another roll. it will soon head back to efo to complete his part in the second part of the experiment.

It’d be interesting to use tapes of different opacities for masking, with slight transparency letting shots bleed through a little.

that would be interesting. i think a sort of similiar affect could be gotten by using different masks in conjunction with multiple exposures.

I love this collaboration. Such a neat idea.

yeah, it’s been really fun.

So awesome! Do you have a link to a full gallery of results — or did I miss it? The jaggedness reminds me a little of cut-and-paste zine aesthetics — you *want* the seams visible, evidence of a human hand at work.

augh! i must have forgotten the link. i’ll go edit it. but in the meantime you can go here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/formica/sets/72157619058077042/ most of the shots are there.
i know exactly what you mean about cut and past zine aesthetics. i love that shot for that. the imperfections make things more interesting than they might have been otherwise.
